Attention Canadian Shoppers!  Find out how to chase down the country’s hottest shopping deals.

Web site introduces Canadians to online couponing.

TORONTO, JULY 8, 2003. RedFlagDeals.com, a Canadian-based online deal-finding web site, is helping a lucky number of Canadian shoppers save money daily.  The website provides a way for visitors to locate deals and online coupons for their on and offline purchases.

“Thanks to this great web site, I saved $40 off a Staples order,” states one of the site’s users.  “RedFlagDeals.com is definitely a web site every Canadian buyer should know about.”

Via the main page of RedFlagDeals.com, users can find discounted offers for computer equipment and other online purchases, coupons for everything from office supplies to sports equipment to Palm Pilots and other handheld devices and beyond. Deals may apply to online purchases, in-store purchases or both.

Users also laud customer service for deals found via the website. “RedFlagDeals.com helped me save on a new CD burner.  I just received it on Friday from NCIX.com. Not only was I impressed with the price and no PST… but the shipping was EXCELLENT - it only took 2 days!”

Updated daily, the site combines staff expertise and a community of deal hunters who relay shopping deals across Canada to the public via the website.  Deals are rated based on cost-savings and with discounts for suppliers ranging from Amazon.ca to SportMart.ca, the site is becoming Canadian value shoppers’ first stop before opening their wallets.  Sample deals available on the site today include:

  • vfxweb.com is selling used SMC10/100 PCI Ethernet cards for just $0.99.
  • Valid until July 10th, Futureshop.ca has the Prima Q2716 27” Virtually Flat TV discounted $70 to only $329.99.
  • TigerDirect.ca has dropped the price on some of the items previously listed on RedFlagDeals.com.  These include the Toshiba PDR-T20, Megapixel camera with 2x zoom for $188.97 and VisionTek Xtasy’s video card for $94.97.
  • HBC.com is currently running a summer clearance promotion, where you customers can save between 10 and 50 per cent off selected products.  Notables include: Deer Lodge six person dome ten for $99, Coleman 3lbs. Thermotech sleeping bag for $24 and Tasco Binoculars with Swiss Army Knife for $34.

RedFlagDeals.com was launched in November 2000 by Derek Szeto, a third-year Queen’s University commerce student while he was still in high school.  His reasons for starting the site were simple – he couldn’t find what he was looking for.

“For months all I could find were coupons and shopping deals available to American shoppers,” says Szeto.  “I couldn’t find a comprehensive site that allowed me to view Canadian deals and coupons, and thus, RedFlagDeals.com was born.  Designed specifically for the Canadian consumer, this site helps people save money on both their online and offline purchases.”

In the U.S., there has been an upward trend and growing usage of online coupons.  The advent of RedFlagDeals.com has now made it possible for Canadians to get online and clip their way to savings.  With over 200 deals available on the site at any given time and over 3200 archived deals, users can find the following:

  • Access to online coupon codes.  For example, on June 20, 2003, Amazon.ca was giving new customers $5 off purchases of $35 or more when coupon code CANADASKY535 was entered at the checkout.

  • Access to information about deals both in-stores and on the Internet.  For example, May 29, 2003, Sportchek posted coupons on their web site for 15 per cent off on all men’s clothing, both sale and regularly priced, as well 15 per cent off men’s regularly priced footwear.  This coupon was good for in-store use only and RedFlagDeals.com tracked it down.

  • Download and print coupons for an online company’s brick and mortar counterpart.  For example, on June 20, 2003, a forum user mentioned an ad he found in The Vancouver Province for a special on the new Xbox.  The promo was good until June 21, 2021 and could be used when making both in-store and online purchases.

“RedFlagDeals.com is an excellent resource for Canadian consumers and an important partner in our business. The community around RedFlagDeals.com helps us insure that our prices are competitive and our service is the best in Canada,” said Steve Wu, president of NCIX.com.

“We really want this site to be of beneficial use to all Canadians,” states Szeto, “and we have made it our mission to ensure that visitors to RedFlagDeals.com receive the best deals across the country.”

    Sequentia Announces Relationship with RedFlagDeals.com

Second-Year University Student’s Website Now Boasts Over 300,000 Unique Canadian Visitors a Month for Retail Rebates and Discount Offers

TORONTO, May 30, 2003. Sequentia Communications, a Toronto-based public relations and internet marketing firm, announced today that it has been retained by RedFlagDeals.com, Canada’s premier online deal-finding web site and a significant bright spot in the Canadian etailing segment.

RedFlagDeals.com was founded by second-year Queen’s University commerce student Derek Szeto while he was still in high school. The site currently boasts over 300,000 unique visitors a month, a testimonial to its commitment to offer to consumers the best retail deals on the market. The site has generated over $500,000 in direct revenue for one of its affiliates, NCIX.com. “RedFlagDeals.com is an excellent resource for Canadian consumers and an important partner in our business. The community around RedFlagDeals.com helps us insure that our prices are competitive and our service is the best in Canada,” said Steve Wu, president of NCIX.com.

“Sequentia’s involvement with AIMS Canada, coupled with their expertise in more traditional media makes them the perfect fit, said Derek Szeto. “By having Sequentia handle our media communications we hope to reach a broader audience while enabling us to focus on our strength - helping Canadians find the best deals on the Internet.

Szeto has also set up a five-year scholarship at Queen’s under the RedFlagDeals.com name. “The scholarship is one way for me to give back. I’m in university so I can understand how expensive it can be. To be in a position where I am able to give back in this way is fantastic.”

“RedFlagDeals is such an exciting success story, a rare thing in Canadian ecommerce circles,” said Jennifer Evans, Managing Partner of Sequentia Communications. “The fact that Derek is still a university student makes their success that much more remarkable. We are delighted to be representing them.”

Who’s Shopping Online - and for what - in Canada this holiday Season!

TORONTO, ON, NOVEMBER 19, 2003. 56 per cent of online bargain shoppers estimate that they will spend between $250-$500 online this holiday season, and 16 per cent plan to spend more than $1000, at a variety of Canadian shopping sites.

These are the results of an online readership survey conducted by Canada’s most popular deal-finding web site, RedFlagDeals.com, which has over 550,000 unique visitors per month.  The results also revealed that Canada’s savviest consumers will be spending mainly on electronics, hardware and DVDs.

According to the survey, the top 10 favourite Canadian online shopping websites are:
    1. FutureShop.ca
    2. eBay.ca
    3. Staples.ca
    4. Amazon.ca
    5. NCIX.com
    6. Chapters.Indigo.ca
    7. TigerDirect.ca
    8. CanadianTire.ca
    9. Dell.ca & Sears.ca (tied)
    10. OfficeDepot.ca

The most popular items purchased online by this community are:
    1. Computer Hardware
    2. Electronics
    3. DVDs
    4. Books
    5. Computer Hardware

“It isn’t surprising that FutureShop.ca is the favourite,” said Derek Szeto, President, RedFlagDeals.com. “They’ve got a trusted brand name with easy access to retail stores, their website is simple to use, and you can’t underestimate the power of free shipping on everything. Bargain hunters just hate paying for shipping.”

The survey results also threaten to debunk some popular shopping myths.  Canadian men do shop - online. Canadian men (81 per cent) are more likely to shop online than women (13 per cent).

These are the findings of an online survey conducted by RedFlagDeals.com between October 21 and November 2, 2021 in commemoration of their three-year anniversary.  The results are based on the responses of 2832 registered users and visitors to RedFlagDeals.com during this timeframe.

Effortless Holiday Shopping is Just a Click Away!

Online shopping tips and tricks from the experts at RedFlagDeals.com

Toronto, Ontario - November 29, 2021 – Is just thinking about shopping mall chaos during this holiday season making you less than jolly? Then you’re no doubt one of many Canadians opting to shop online this year. eMarketer predicts 2005 will be the largest online holiday shopping season ever. Ipsos-Reid reported that during the 2004 holiday season, more than 3.5 million Canadian adults purchased at least one gift online - a 59 per cent increase over the previous year.

“Consumers are drawn to the convenience of online shopping,” says Derek Szeto, founder of RedFlagDeals.com, Canada’s largest online bargain hunting community. “Retailers have spent millions of dollars on making their online stores as interactive, informative, and user-friendly as possible. When you shop online you can often find things like online coupons, Internet-only deals and in-depth information that just aren’t available at a retailer’s brick and mortar location.”

Reasons to Shop Online this Holiday Season

    • Save Money—Hopefully you know exactly what to get everybody, but that doesn’t mean you should run to the mall to buy it. You can save a lot of money by visiting bargain hunting sites like RedFlagDeals.com and shopping search engines like PriceCanada.com to find the best prices on the items your friends and family want. With a little bit of searching you will find a large number of coupons that you can use to save on your online purchases. It saves gas too as you won’t have to drive to 10 different stores to do your shopping.
    • Save Time—Online shopping is fast. No line ups, no parking kilometres from the mall, no traveling to different stores when an item is sold out, and many stores will gift wrap an item before shipping it to you. With all of the time you’ll save, you can actually spend the holiday season with your friends and family instead of with strangers in a mall!
    • No Crowds—Navigating the malls during the holiday season is a full contact sport and if you do manage to find what you want, you’ll face long lines at the check out. Shopping online is crowd free, which means no lines, no parking lots, and no hassle.
    • Find the Perfect Gift—Finding the perfect gift is difficult at the best of times, but the additional pressure of the holidays can make it nearly impossible. Online shopping can make your life easier because sites like Amazon.ca offer suggestions based on other items your problem gift recipient likes. You can also research other possibilities by visiting sites and message boards that they frequent to find out what their online friends are interested in and if you like, you can even ask for suggestions.

The ease and fun of online shopping makes it an excellent option to reduce some of that holiday stress. To help you navigate the online shopping landscape, the huge community of online bargain junkies at RedFlagDeals.com (http://www.redflagdeals.com) are always around to help.
