Doctors know more than you do about a deadly disease like cancer.
That goes without saying. But no one but you knows what you’re willing to do in order to save your life. That’s why it’s important to examine all options when you have cancer. Read these tips below and find out about your options.

It is quite normal for cancer patients to feel unattractive. Self-esteem is at an all-time low and nothing seems to be right. This is a great time to pamper yourself! When you are feeling well enough, take a friend and go out to lunch. Get your nails done, or shop for a new outfit. Doing normal, everyday activities can make you feel like part of life again and change your whole attitude!

If you are battling cancer, it can be helpful to join a support group for your type of cancer or cancer in general. Talking to others in your situation can help you feel less alone and give you a chance to make new friends. Mutual support can be very important on the journey to recovery.

You should meditate during those times when you are really struggling with cancer. It can help you to stay mentally focused and not just think about the cancer. It can give you the mental strength to fight the cancer and really take control of your life.

If you have been diagnosed with cancer and are a smoker, you need to quit right away. The ingredients in cigarettes have been proven to have very bad side effects on the body and for someone that is battling cancer they can be very detrimental. It is important to quit as soon as possible to have a fighting chance against the cancer.

People with cancer need complete honesty from you, so do not hide anything from them just because you feel it may hurt them or hurt your relationship with them. Whether it’s something the doctor said or a secret you’ve been sitting on for another reason now is the time for full disclosure.

Don’t change your life drastically. It may be better if you try
to maintain your lifestyle as it was while introducing
necessary modifications. A big change can increase your stress level and
confuse the people around you. Take every day at a time and make changes to your life as is needed.

A great way for cancer survivors to deal and to know
what lies ahead is to network with other survivors.
There are plenty of cancer survivors in the world, thankfully, and they meet up at support groups and even on internet forums, so you can always keep in contact with other survivors.

Keeping a journal of what you hear from doctors and/or how you personally plan to fight the disease is a good idea.

You can often become confused and especially discouraged
when fighting cancer, so having some notes
to refer to can help you remember the steps you
had planned on taking to beat the disease.

Have at least one person around you to act as your proxy for calling the doctor if you’re unable to. Having cancer means that some days you will be too weak to do what you need, so you will need someone else to help you with these responsibilities.

Get at least eight hours of sleep each night. You can become very tired and stressed when you are going through cancer treatments. If you are well rested, you will recover from treatment faster and live a fuller life. If you are feeling tired throughout the day, don’t be
afraid to take additional nap times.

Drinking a lot of water is a great way to not only help with taking your cancer medications, but also to prevent
cancer altogether. Ample water in your system is great for your kidneys and will help to prevent constipation.
It also helps to keep you properly hydrated, in order to keep your cells
healthy.

Be sure to get plenty of rest if you are a cancer patient.
Your body needs all of the energy that it can get.
So, it is okay to give in to the fatigue that you are feeling.
If you are having a hard time sleeping, talk to
your doctor.

Beware of the sun even on cloud covered days. The harmful rays of the
sun are still making their way through the clouds
and to your skin. Keep sunscreen applied even if you do not feel the heat
of the sunrays. They are still causing the damage that they would if
there was not a cloud in the sky.

Many imaging centers give you the opportunity to get the results from your screening while you are there.
You may need to look around to find the center that will do
this for you but you will not have to sit around waiting to learn the results.
Knowing quickly is going to make it easier for you to deal
with.

It is important that females get a pap smear done at least once every two years.
If you have a history of gynecological problems,
you may want to have one every year. Pap smears detect cervical cancer and changes in their cervical
cells, which if caught early, is very treatable.

Create a bucket list. For both cancer patients and non-cancer patients alike, it is helpful to have a list of
the things you’d like to experience in your life. Start with small, easily doable things, and then add more involved or difficult items. Make concrete plans to achieve these things. Having this list will remind you of what is important in your life and give you things to look forward to each day.

Seek help from your religious leader. If you do not have one, there are many that will be more than happy to help you through this time. If you are looking for someone to pray with you or just to listen without judgment, they are going to be what you need.

Keep your job as long as your body will allow you to. You will find that if you continue to work that you will find more meaning in your life. That will give you a way to spend your days without thinking about your disease the entire time. You will keep your mind sharp and feel good doing it.

As stated before, millions of people worldwide suffer from cancer. It’s a sad
truth, yet being a cancer sufferer does not not mean that you cannot
expect a great quality of life. You’ve just seen a few of the many great hints that are available to help you or a loved one to deal with this challenge. With a positive attitude and diligent effort, cancer can be fought effectively.
